090110 star king The Blue Knights club was formed in 1974 in Brewer, Maine by nine law enforcement officers, and in thirteen years has grown to nearly 20,000 members in 599 chapters in 29 countries. The local chapters are run by a strict set of by-laws from International Headquarters, which restricts membership to law enforcement personnel, with the exception that each chapter may choose to allow 10% of their membership to include those not in the law enforcement profession. The purpose of this corporation is to provide a fraternal and social motorcycle club for law enforcement personnel and associated professions to better the image of motorcyclists, and to help the less fortunate through a reliable charitable organization. Charities that help children are especially close to our hearts, and the Blue Knights are dedicated to raising money for organizations such as the Make-a-Wish Foundation, Toys for Tots, D.A.R.E., and Concerns of Police Survivors.As of July 31, 2009, the Blue Knights have donated to numerous charities; contributing time in the amount of $4,092,292.00, goods with an estimated value of $631,217.24 and $6,921,532.87 in cash, for a total of $11,645,042.11 (USD).
